Selbstgestaltetes Kunstwerk mit kreisförmigen Objekten in Grün und Orange

The idea of a children's museum is based on the desire to give children, young people and adults access to art and culture through their own creative activities.

The transfer of knowledge at the Creaviva takes place by means of analog, creative, interactive and participatory art education. Since its opening in 2005, the Creaviva has seen itself as a pioneering, supra-regional competence center for practical, experience-oriented and interactive art and culture education, based on the life and work of Paul Klee and other artists in the exhibitions at the Zentrum Paul Klee.

The Creaviva Children's Museum focuses on the creative process. Art should be experienced through playful exploration involving all the senses. We are driven by our curiosity to search for the beauty of the world. In the discovery of beauty, we recognize ourselves.

Janine Aebi-Müller, Founder and President of the FME Foundation

Creaviva aims to offer a counterbalance to a consumer-oriented and fast-paced world. This is usually easier to achieve with children than with adults. No one is too old to live out their childlike curiosity and remain a child. We all have a love of discovery, openness and a thirst for knowledge.

In its activities, Creaviva pays particular attention to accessibility and, thanks to its ongoing initiatives and having been awarded the "Kultur Inklusiv" label since 2016, sees itself as an inclusive cultural institution. Since 2022, Creaviva has carried the "Home of 21st Century Education" label , which highlights the unique quality of museums in Europe as pioneers of education for children, and was the winner of the "Children in Museums Award" in the same year.

As an independent organizational unit, Creaviva is integrated into the Zentrum Paul Klee and reports to its own management. This in turn reports to the Fondation du Musée des Enfants auprès du Centre Paul Klee.

Vision, mission & guiding principles

  • We convey more than art.
We convey the joy of shaping our world.

  • Creaviva is a place of sustainable, creative competence experiences for people aged 4 and over, characterized by care, tolerance and mindfulness. Creaviva is based on the concerns of its founders Maurice E. Müller and Janine Aebi-Müller against the backdrop of the reality of its guests' lives. At its heart is the idea of discovering an opportunity to gain self-confidence and strengthen one's self-image through creative engagement with art and culture.

  • Creaviva's offerings are aimed at everyone from the age of four: in particular children and young people, schools of all levels, learners, people with disabilities, teams from business and administration and adults of all ages.

The aim is to invite all visitors to discover and develop their own creativity and to use these experiences to understand cultural products and messages.

The purpose of all Creaviva offers is to open up new approaches to art and thus contribute to the development of the ability to judge and criticize art and the world.

Offers of high professional and didactic quality are also aimed at visitors who have previously found it difficult to access art.

Creaviva ensures quality through the verifiable professional qualifications of its staff and, in the sense of a permanent mandate to the team, by periodically questioning and renewing its offerings. The systematically collected feedback from all visitors and experts is of great importance in these processes.

Creaviva's corporate culture includes respect, appreciation and esteem within the team and towards visitors and partnerships, responsibility towards the environment and careful use of the infrastructure and resources available for the work.
